Lab Jigsaw Activity- Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation: This foundation is a non-profit organization that is prioritizing protecting and restoring Iowa's land, water, and wildlife. This organization was founded in 1979, and wanted to ensure that things like woodlands, prairies, wetlands, and wildlife were not lost but instead protected. To protect things like this, this organization relies on volunteers, donations, and partners to help protect Iowa's natural places. Volunteers were known to donate their time to help keep prairies, trails, and rivers in good condition. The donations helped bring in more resources to have good help on sites across Iowa and things we are trying to protect. This foundation prioritizes many different things. The first is looking at Land, Water, and Wildlife Protection. Lab : (Climate Science: Before the Flood)  What are the primary points in the video?  This video talked about the big issues of climate change and in what ways humans have an effect on climate change as well. That is a lot of the big things that I wrote about and spoke on. What are the major issues?  The major issues that the video talked about is just how big of an issue climate change is on the world around us recently and how to bring more awareness to reduce climate change. Another issue is just the ways in being able to reduce the carbon emissions and change to renewable energy. What question:  How to bring more awareness to climate change among people? There are three main types of rocks: igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic. It was most helpful to see how all of these rocks are actually classified. Igneous forms when magma cools. Sedimentary forms when small particles called sediments are compacted together over time. Then metamorphic rocks form when existing rocks undergo heat and pressure. Lab : Our goal should be about relearning in coursework, not simply about how good our grade is. The earth has 5 layers of the earth. The Core and the Mantle are in the inner crust and those two are both very hot, which leads to a convection in the mantle. The core goes back to the surface. Along the surface, things need to be turned and ripped apart. We then used starbursts, and different heat sources to hopefully represent the different rocks in the rock cycle. The three we attempted to meet are Sedimentary, Igneous, and Metamorphic. It was fun to try and do different things and different kinds of melting to represent different kinds of rocks. Lecture : Today we touched base and discussed the different layers of the earth again. We touched on the four main parts crust, mantle, inner core, and outer core.
